Administrative/Biographical History
Mary Warkentin, 1924-2003, was born in Friedensruh, Molotschna to Herman and Katharina (nee Neufeld) Warkentin. She immigrated to Canada, arriving on 25 October 1925 in Didsbury, Alberta with her family. From birth Mary has health difficulties, with rickets even slowing her learning to walk until age 3. From age 14 to 19, Mary lived with undiagnosed tuberculosis. Her early education was taken at the Munson School - a five-mile walk per day. Her health limited her ability to attend school while a teenager, but later on she made up for it by going to Bible school. Mary never married, but instead dedicated her life to teaching. Her teaching assignments included schools at Delia, Vauxhall, Acme, and Three Hills in Alberta; and South America.
